Saddle Up for Your Easter Egg Hunt This Year

Everything You Wanted to Know About Saddle Up Farms

By Joey Lynn Walko April 7, 2020

If you’re looking for a unique and eggciting new type of Easter egg hunt for your children 2 years and older I have the answer! Located in the mountains of White Haven, Saddle Up Farms will be offering a brand new egg hunt experience throughout the month of April.

Saddle Up Farms is a family business that offers trail rides by appointment only as well as riding and therapy lessons. The trail rides are perfect for all levels of riders and younger children can enjoy a half hour ride through the woods guided by an instructor. Older children and adults will enjoy the entire encounter beginning with meeting the horse and creating a bond by helping saddle him/her up and then getting out on the trails and enjoying the scenery. Both English and Western riding lessons are available to children ages 2 and older and are available at a discount when you purchase five or more lessons. The therapy lessons focus on bonding and routine to create a calming outlet for kids and adults with mental and physical disabilities, troubled youth, and veterans. If you’re working with a therapist or counselor they will contact them to learn more about what would be most beneficial for the rider to learn and feel. The wonderful people at Saddle Up will not turn anyone away for the therapy lessons and never want finances to be an issue. They will find a way to get scholarships for money for anyone who needs therapy lessons but cannot afford them.

Five horses reside on the farm and each one has a different and distinct personality. Cinnamon is a 17 year old mare who was rescued from an auction. It took her some time to warm up to people but now she loves receiving as much attention as she can get. She also enjoys taking her time on the rides and enjoying the scenery as much as the riders. At 20 years old, Sammy is the old man of the group and is very sweet and easy going. Joe is 17 years old, one of the biggest horses on the farm but also acts like a big baby. He is full of personality and loves rubbing on people so much he may grab your shirt if you start to walk away when he’s still craving some attention. Playboy is a 10 year old retired racehorse who received a new name on the farm due to the heart shape on his head and for his fondness of women. Last but not least is Sweet Pea. He is a 6 year old blind, playful, kind horse who loves everyone and being brushed.

The Easter egg hunt runs every day throughout April in thirty minute increments between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The horses will be dressed as bunnies and will have baskets on their saddles to hold the eggs collected by the riders. They will be led on the 20 minute trail through the woods by the instructor dressed like a carrot. Each rider can look for ten hidden eggs hanging from the trees that they can trade in at the end of the ride for prizes like toys and candy. Reservations are required to participate. Waivers are available on the website to fill out before you arrive. Long pants and closed toed shoes like boots or sneakers are required for all riders. Helmets are provided by the farm. Please contact the farm at 570-534-0439 to make an appointment or visit their website if you would like more information about the egg hunt or the lessons. Please let them know you heard about them from Macaroni Kid North Poconos/Hazleton.
